Outdoor recreational activities

The following activities will be offered free of charge for students enrolled in the Curriculum-Activities Program, FSL Teacher Program, Chalet Residence Program I and II.

For all other programs, a French speaking instructor will accompany students during activities but the cost of those activities is not included and is to be paid by the student.


Hiking with a guide.

The many hiking trails between Maria and Carleton offer easy or challenging routes all of which are very scenic.
Cost : Free

A trek to the Parc National de la Gaspésie can be organized. With summits that climb over 1,000 metres, the high mountain atmosphere of the Chic-Chocs and McGerrigle Mountains, unique in Québec, is sure to make a lasting impression on you. Hiking trails on Mont-Albert are exceptional. The Parc national de la Gaspésie is a unique site for enjoying a wide variety of activities suited to beginners as well as those with more experience: hiking, snow shoeing, backcountry skiing, telemark, flora and fauna observation, mountain interpretation, talks at the interpretation centre, canoeing and salmon fishing.
Cost : 15 $ for the day

Equestrian.

Several stables offer scenic rides for 1 hour by the sea or in the mountain. You can take a longer ride for a few days and sleep in a tepee on a Canadian tent. Cost : 25 $ for an hour, contact us for more details.

Sea kayaking.

The Baie-des-Chaleurs is a perfect place for beginners or experts to try sea kayaking. Cime Aventure will be your guide.

Canoeing.

The crystal clear waters of the Bonaventure river make these excursions a pleasure. Cime Aventure will be your guide for different excursions, for beginners and pros ! Cost: from 25 $ for 2 hours.

Golf.

There are good 9 hole and 18 hole golf courses in Carleton and Bonaventure. Cost : please visit www.golfdecarleton.com for more information

Salmon fishing.

World class salmon fishing is offered in the Baie-des-Chaleurs region along the Bonaventure river and the Cascapedia river.

Mountain biking.

There are both easy and very challenging trails for beginners or avid mountain bikers. Bike rental is available.

Bioparc de la Gaspésie.

The Bioparc de la Gaspésie is an educational park, an observation and interpretation centre for Gaspesian ecology. The park is host to a collection of approximately 30 indigenous animal species, representing more than 60 individuals in semi-liberty and 70 indigenous plant species that can be observed in their five respective ecosystems: Bay, Barachois, River, Forest, Tundra.
Cost : 12,50$ for adult

Activities not included in cost of course:

Health Spa.

The Aqua-Mer therapy centre is the first sea water therapy centre in North America to offer treatments to improve general fitness.

Sailing Excursions.

Day trips out of Carleton to a neighboring island are very popular.

Salmon fishing.

World class salmon fishing is offered in the Baie-des-Chaleurs region along the Bonaventure river and the Cascapedia river. This activity is expensive but very famous among fishermen.

Miguasha Fossil Park

Miguasha Park’s fossil site has a world wide reputation. The fish and plant fossils in the park’s cliff are evidence of life that existed 370 million years ago. This site is part of the World Heritage List of UNESCO since 1999 and the museum have been completely modernized lately.
Cost : 10 $ for adult

Théâtre Le Quai des Arts

For more than 15 years ‘A tour de role’ productions have been presenting professional theatrical productions. À tout de rôle also organize improvisation games each two Friday night during fall and winter.

Théâtre de la Petite Marée

Theatre productions, recognized by the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Quebec, have been adapted to a family audience.

Maximum Blues

Blues music festival that takes place on 5 different sites with more than 72 performances by the beach and in the heart of the town. It is the place to be in August ! For more information, plese visit www.maximumblues.net

Musée Acadian du Quebec

This history and ethnology museum describes Acadian settlement in Quebec and explains how the Acadians contributed to Quebec society.
Cost : 7 $ for adult

Bioparc

Discover the Bioparc’s living collection from the flora and fauna of five Gaspésie ecosystems : bay, barachois, river, forest and tundra.

Artist studio tour

Visit studios of well known Gaspesien artists and their art collections. www.zonegaspesie.qc.ca

 

Extracurricular activities

The following activities will be offered free of charge for students enrolled in the Curriculum-Activities Program, FSL Teacher Program, Chalet Residence Program I and II.

For all other programs, a French speaking instructor will accompany students during activities but the cost of those activities is not included and is to be paid by the student.

The extracurricular activities are organized activities that allow the students to practice what they are taught in stimulating and challenging ways.

Creative writing course

Students will be given guidelines to follow in writing fiction or a narrative. Their work will be judged and awarded and published on the web site of Immersion Baie-des-Chaleurs if the student is interested.

Theatrical skits

Students who want to participate in short theatrical skits will have the opportunity. Skits will be judged and awarded.

Debates

All students will participate in debates on current events.

Team Trivia Competition

All students will participate in team competitions such as Reach for the Top.
